Healthcare Staff
Practice Nurses
Practice Nurses are nurses with additional qualifications in chronic disease management and are available, by appointment, for Asthma, Diabetic, Healthy Heart, Minor Illness advice, cervical smears, contraception, etc. In addition to these they are also able to provide all the services covered by Treatment Room Nurses, Healthcare Assistants and Phlebotomists.
Treatment Room Nurses
Treatment Room Nurses are available, also by appointment, for blood pressure checks, ear syringing, ECGs, dressings, removal of stitches, new patient checks, Support to Stop Smoking, dietary advice, immunisations, travel and general advice which does not require a doctor’s appointment.
Phlebotomists/Health Care Assistants
Phlebotomy is the practice of taking blood and all nurses, health care assistants and phlebotomists are trained in this procedure.
Health Care Assistants, under the general supervision of a registered nurse, carry out procedures required by the practice. Some of these duties include dressings, blood pressure measurement, new patient checks, ECGs etc.
Elderly Care Nurse
Karen Billowes (RGN, BSc) works with all the Clevedon GPs to help improve the primary health care we offer our older people living in care homes. This includes chronic disease management and regular medication reviews with the overall aim being to promote better health, maximise quality of life and reduce inappropriate admissions to hospital.
District Nurses
The District Nursing team has a number of full and part time staff who share the workload. They see patients who are confined in their home and need nursing care. Their expertise includes Terminal illness and Palliative Care, administering injections, continence management and wound care.

Health Visitors
The Health Visitors are available at the surgery on Wednesday from 1.30pm to 3pm. This is a ‘drop in clinic’ for mothers, babies and children under five.

Midwife
The community midwife holds weekly antenatal clinics, and visits mothers with new babies in their homes.
