She had previously been employed as Assistant Practice Manager with the surgery since August 2003 and gained the Primary Care Management Diploma in October 2005. Her role is extremely broad, covering the overall business management of the surgery, including strategic planning, financial control, human resources etc.
Secretaries/Coders
The practice has two part time secretaries, Mrs Julia Crofts and Mrs Jill Carlton, whose main roles are typing GP referral letters and computer coding.
Lead Administrator
The Lead Administrator Mrs Kay Thomas joined Sunnyside Surgery in February 2011. She supports the Practice Manager and oversees the Admin Team. Her role is varied; her priority is maintaining the appointment system and ensuring that there is adequate GP cover when doctors are on annual/study leave. Other duties include helping with the Health and Safety for the practice.
Reception and Administration Co-ordinator
The senior receptionist is Mrs Sue Weston who has been employed at Sunnyside since November 1991. Sue oversees the receptionists, giving support and training when necessary. She is also responsible for the registering and removing of patients from the practice list, making sure that all records are fully updated. She also has other administrative duties.
Receptionists and Admin Clerks
The receptionists and admin clerks are trained in the skills required to efficiently carry out their role within the practice team. The reception staff have a very difficult job in an extremely busy environment. Please be patient, they are there to help you and work to specific protocols laid down by the practice management. It may be necessary for the staff to ask questions regarding your request for an appointment; this is usually a request for you to describe any symptoms you may have. These questions will help staff direct you to the most appropriate service and if this appears urgent they will notify a doctor as soon as they can. They are bound by the same rules of confidentiality as the doctors and nurses.
